基本上ISP提供的Internet服務向來就是沒有保證的, 就像我買一個10/2M 的ADSL, 也祇是買條超寬的聯結道路去和那條高速公路銜接上去而已, 至於高速公路上的時速能飈到多快, 抱歉!!真的祇有天知道.
traceroute, ping這種東西好用歸好用, 但真正會拿來解決問題多半也還是用在Intranet裏面, 除非你是ISP backbone人員, 真的非常清楚你自己和別人的peering, transit也看的到自己 backbone 的 traffic utilization, 不然單憑end user端 trace, ping 個幾下, 就去和backbone team 盧, 會不會管太寬?
BTW, 看來還蠻多人喜歡使用traceroute來做 troubleshooting, 那這裏我建議有興趣深究的人可以去買本 TCP/IP Illustrated I,II,III來看一看, 會讓你對traceroute和PING有什麼不同有很深的瞭解, 當然, 如果能把traceroute & ping 的source code拿來trace一下, 更會讓人(至少我一定)肅然起敬.
