I have a fujitsu c2210 nb. At the early time the hd and the cd/dvd combo drive is confirmed as"dead". Then i bought a new pioneer A11 and a new 2.5 hd. Now the new hd had two partition, both of them is about 50gb(the new hd is 100gb), and the a11 is now connect to the nb with a 5.2 case(usb 2.0). but i can't install xp through the old and dead cd/dvd combo drive. Than how can i install windows xp to my computer?
But from the experience, you can start from bios.
Change bios setting to "Boot from CD/DVD drive" instead from drive first.
Then put your Windows XP CD to start installation (Rest part is winXP work).
But first thing you need to confirm:
Is USB CD/DVD drive work under bios on your laptop?
I mean if you look in the Bios, if you can't found any CD/DVD drive.
That means you have to re-new the bios or connect CD drive from IDE channel.
If have floopy on your machine, probably this might help.

Change a little bit idea from the web page. (But I think this should work. :) )
You can format drive first, then put WindowsXP CD content into C:
Let's say C:\install
Then use win98 create boot floopy to boot-up.
cd c:\install
type winnt.exe
Then winXP should begin to install.
But you need
1. Floopy drive on your laptop
2. win98 floopy boot-up disk
If not, probably replace dead cd-rom drive will be BEST solution.
Can find it on Ebay or yahoo
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

Before you install Windows XP, you could try to copy to D drive all the data which you will use to install XP. Then trun off laptop....after you turn on computer, press F8, and then go to DOS, you could click "setup" from D drive....
Maybe you could install Window XP from D drive to C drive.
If you could start to install XP, then format your C drive in NTFS format...
Don't forget to tell us how you successfully install XP....
And Most Importantly, Don't forget to do "GHOST" this time.
