Goodyear Eagle F1: The Perfect Tire?

Goodyear launches "fuel-sippers"
Goodyear launched three new fuel-efficient linehaul tires this fall at their proving grounds in San Angelo. Texas.
The new series all featuring the company's Fuel Max Technology, include the Unisteel G395 LHS steer tire, the Unisteel G305 LHD drive tire and finally, the Unisteel G316 LHT trailer tire. All three are available in the standard (11R22.5) and the low profile (295/75R22.5 and 285/75R24.5) sizes.
Goodyear claims the new tires can deliver up to 4% improved fuel economy when following approved mounting and alignment recommendations.
In addition, the units were tested by the Society of Automotive Engineers, which claim much greater findings that of 8% fuel savings when compared with Goodyear's standard OTR series. All tests were monitored in controlled testing environments.
Company officials related "that since no one drives at a constant speed on flat terrain for a ten hour shift" the engineers adjusted the SAE results to 4% targeting real world conditions.
Concrete fuel savings equal 4% thus 6 mpg is improved to 6.24 mpg which translates into a yearly savings of up to $2,100 a year. (Rig driven 120,000 miles a year with fuel pricing at $2.85 gallon).
Innovative tread designs combined with advanced compound and manufacturing technologies were factors in the fuel savings. Goodyear engineers focused on rolling resistance, depth of tread and compound issues.
The latest editions will be produced at Goodyear's Danville, VA and Topeka, KS plants.
Goodyear Named An International Truck Primary Supplier
Steve McClellan, vice president of Goodyear commercial tire systems has announced that the company's fuel-efficient Fuel Max Technology tires and self-sealing DuraSeal mixed-service tires are eligible for selection by International Truck customers. In addition, Goodyear's Fuel Max tires are standard equipment on the International ProStar family of tractors.
Goodyear commercial tire production for International is produced at manufacturing facilities in Danville, VA and Topeka, KS.
Goodyear's Latest Eagle Takes Flight
Available this month at your local Goodyear retailer, the new Eagle F1 All Season tire continues the company's Carbon Fiber Technology line up.
The All Season label allows this fitment to utilized on a broader range of passenger sedan platforms. The neat thing is, the new brand allows drivers greater control with a crisp and responsive feel on dry pavement along with offering greater traction and control on the wet stuff, including improved traction on snow.
Goodyear's carbon fiber-reinforced inner and outer sidewall stiffens and reinforces the casing to maintain greater road surface contact.
The new tread design is reinforced with aggressive shoulder blocks along with a noted continuous center rib. Additionally, Goodyear's patented TredLock Technology utilizes a series of cups and domes located between the tread groves. This added feature allows the brand to offer additional biting edges. When the Eagle F1 All Season senses the inertia of a sharp turn, the tires cups and domes lock the tread together to enhance the tread area thus keeping the contact patch on the road surface.
The new All Season also features DuPont KEVLAR thread, silica tread compound, a PermaBlack Compound that enhances initial and long term appearance, a rim flange protector and dual directional tread design.
New versatile transfer hose added by Goodyear
Goodyear Engineered Products has introduced their Flexwing VersaFuel transfer hose brand that can be utilized in the tank market and plant operations to transfer Diesel, gasoline, oil, biodiesel and ethanol blends. In addition, traditional petroleum-based products with up to 60% aromatic content may also be used.
The advantage to Goodyear distributors is the ability to service new and existing accounts with a one-brand simplification. The new product aides in selection, lowers inventory cost, and has the bonus of meeting emerging fuel markets.
The new brands outside cover resists degradation from fuel blends along with abrasions. An inner tube material resists swelling, softening or cracking caused by these new alternative fuels. The product also utilizes a helix wire reinforcement that reduces the risk of collapse, permitting full vacuum applications. VersaFuel's construction dissipates static build-up that could lead to static discharge near volatile fuels or liquids.
The new brand can operate in extreme temperatures, hot or cold, from 180 degrees Fahrenheit to 30 below.
The product is stocked in 100-foot lengths and seven diameters from one to four inches.

"INPALA" BUILDING A MODERN MILD CUSTOM
Back in the day, when the "little book" pocket-sized versions of Car Craft, Rod & Custom and Custom Rodder were on the news stands, bold car buyers would pick up their new 1959 Lesabre, Thunderbird or Impala and get them customized as quickly as possible. There are stories from the late '50s of people driving them DIRECTLY to the custom shop when they left the dealership, hoping to get them back on the street in HOURS, not weeks.
Instant customs were born. That is the notion behind "Inpala"...taking a stock, original paint, survivor '59 Chevy and doing as much as possible WITHOUT resorting to radical body modifications, paint changes or engine swaps. While some of those '50s and '60s mild customs were the inspiration for the 2007 "Inpala" concept, it has unique contemporary features as well...
CONSTRUCTION
"Clean and smooth" were the basic guidelines for Inpala, so the construction cleaned up the original design. Among the changes were the removal of the stock grill, replaced with a one-off stainless round-stock grill which matches the original grill contour. New headlight bezels and "eyebrow" grills above the grill were painted and detailed, while clear headlights were added. The original bumper and massive bumper guard were replaced with one-piece body-colored "California" bumpers with bolts filled.
Out back a similar "cleanup" was accomplished with painted bumpers and paint accents added to the taillights. Flat, red plexiglass taillight lenses were also added, and backup lamps eliminated with a smoothed rear valance.
"Stance" was critical for 'old school' customs, and the new Inpala reflects that look. Lower springs (two inches in front, three in back) were added while painted rocker panel moldings help to visually bring the car to the ground.
Perhaps the biggest and most effective change is the wheel/tire update. Designed to look to the past and the future, the wheels are 18-inch solid billet Wheel Vintiques units, with the centers body colored. Special adaptor fasteners were created by The Wheelsmith to accept 1959 New Old Stock "dog dish" center caps. Modern Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 performance tires are used. The result is a compliment to the "instant customs" of the '50s and the "new millennium" cars of today.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Performance Tyres Soar in European Mags
Goodyear's Eagle F1 ultra-performance tyre is earning high praise in the toughest proving ground in the automotive industry -- the European auto enthusiast magazine tyre test.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3 tyre recently won a consumer magazine test in America, and its showing in Europe has been even more phenomenal, according to Bob Toth, marketing manager for auto tyres in North America.
The latest kudos came from Auto Express, one of Britain旧 top enthusiast magazines, which named Eagle F1 the winner of its 2003 tyre test. Pitting Goodyear's ultra-performance tyre against eight others, Auto Express said Eagle F1 dominated the competition with wins in wet handling, wet cornering, dry braking, straight aquaplaning and curved aquaplaning.
The magazine tested 16-inch performance tyres on a BMW 5 Series and Mercedes C Class in its Oct. 1 issue. Consumer Editor Kim Adams, said: "Eagle F1 was way ahead in the wet and on the pace in the dry. When the heavens open, the tyre to be on is definitely Goodyear. Its curved aquaplaning performance was amazing, with grip maintained long after rivals had given up."
Shortly after the tyre's introduction last year, three German magazines and British EVO magazine gave Eagle F1 highest marks in performance versus competitive tyres. Germany's Sport Auto magazine reported that the Goodyear tyre "came to a stop more than four meters ahead of its rivals." Toth said Eagle F1's showing in Europe is no accident; it's all by design. "If you look at conventional tyres, the horizontal grooves in the tread are usually interrupted by cross groove patterns. This means tyre-road contact is broken at regular intervals.
"But with Eagle F1, the tread runs uninterrupted from shoulder to shoulder -- much like a racing tyre -- targeting that in both straight driving and cornering, there is always a very large contact area on the road," Toth said. In addition, the centerline, which also runs continuous, delivers a direct, "sporty" steering feel, he added.
"These European wins are fantastic," he said. "They resonate well with automotive enthusiasts around the world. Eagle F1 truly is Goodyear's first 'world' tyre, and it's being embraced by auto enthusiasts everywhere."
Mail order and on-line tyre sales specialist Tyre Rack also lists the tyre atop its Max Performance tyre survey, with customers rating the tyre on its traction, cornering stability, steering response, ride comfort and most importantly -- their willingness to buy again.
Goodyear Eagle F1 scores a 9 out of 10 points in Tyre Rack's Repurchase category. No other tyre in the survey scored more than 8.6.

TF运用了发动机中置及后轮驱动技术,实现了前45后55的质量分配。这项技术来源于F1,也正是因为这一点,南京名爵才敢用“真正的跑车”来推广这一款产品。这项技术带来的好处就是汽车的重心接近于中心,从而提高汽车弯道性能,因此有专家试驾完TF后高兴地说:这辆车根本不需要ESP。
TF的动力来源于一部名爵动力总成公司的1.8升自然吸气直列四缸发动机,最大功率100KW,最大扭矩165NM。单从数据上看,这台发动机表现非常优秀,驱动娇小的车身,只需8.2秒即可由静止加速到100KMH。与这台发动机匹配的同样是出自名爵动力总成的PG1变速箱。这台变速箱行程非常短,档位清晰,很有跑车的感觉。笔者曾有幸试驾过TF跑车,轻点油门,推背感随之而来,让驾驶者在车流间穿梭成为一件惬意的事。
从悬架上看,TF采用双叉臂前独立悬架和后多连杆独立悬架。在这样的小车上布置复杂的悬挂系统绝对不是件容易的事,但是这样的悬挂系统也确保了TF拥有稳健的操控感受。
与漂亮的外型相比,TF的内饰显然有些让人失望。从中控台到方向盘,TF的内饰朴素得有些简陋。中控台上简单地布置了CD机、旋钮式空调控制器,以及电动车窗按钮和各种功能按钮。但是值得欣慰的是,这些简单的按钮手感不错而且相当容易上手。双色方向盘相当小巧而且手感尚可,但是造型的确老旧了。依然是双色的真皮座椅硬度适中,包裹性尚可。金属排挡杆抓在手里很有加速的冲动。4S店对于这样的内饰解释是:敞蓬车风吹日晒,过于细致的内饰不容易保养。不过,这样的解释怎么能打发车迷对于品质的追求呢?希望TF在今后的改款版本中能够改进这方面的设计,让消费者和车迷真正感受到贵族气息。
最后来看看价格。这款TF在当年原装进口时售价高达58万,这样的价格都赶上了宝马Z4。时至今日,MG已经完全被南汽收购,所有的生产也都在南京进行,价格当然也要被大幅削减。不过,根据TF的定位和生产成本,预计的售价将会在22万左右。这样的价格显然不如国内一些先行上市的跑车有竞争力,而且仅有的两个座位让你的狗狗都无从置身。但是如果你追求真正的驾驶乐趣而不是仅仅华丽的外表,追求真正的贵族气息而不是仅仅小资,如果你只愿意和你的爱人享受二人世界,那么,TF就是你最佳的选择。

For 80 years, Goodyear blimps have adorned the skies as very visible corporate symbols of the tire and rubber company that began operations in 1898.
Today, these graceful giants travel more than 100,000 miles across the United States per year as Goodyear's "Aerial Ambassadors."
The blimp tradition began in 1925 when Goodyear built its first helium-filled public relations airship, the Pilgrim. The tire company painted its name on the side and began barnstorming the United States. Humble beginnings to an illustrious history.
Over the years, Goodyear built more than 300 airships, more than any other company in the world. Akron, Ohio, the company's world headquarters, was the center of blimp manufacturing for several decades.
During World War II many of the Goodyear-built airships provided the U.S. Navy with a unique aerial surveillance capability. Often used as convoy escorts, the blimps were able to look down on the ocean surface and spot a rising submarine and radio its position to the convoy's surface ships. . . in essence acting as an early warning system. Modern surveillance technology eventually eclipsed the advantages of the airship fleet, and in 1962 the Navy discontinued the program.
Today, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company no longer mass-produces airships. In the United States it operates three well-recognized blimps: the Spirit of Goodyear, based in Akron, Ohio; the Spirit of America, based in Carson, California; and the Spirit of Innovation, in Pompano Beach, Florida.
