The final fix for this issue was released today (10/8/10) in the form of an update to version 1.0.2.32 of the Toshiba Fingerprint Reader software, which is now available at
http://df.toshiba.com/os2010374b_TC00345000A.exe >>>>>for download.
For those who have applied the workaround described in another message within this thread, disabling the fingerprint reader power management, this update will also re-enable the power management.
FYI, this update is also applicable to the Portege M780, Tecra M11 and Tecra A11 model families, along with the Portege R700s.
