這點是您自己的看法還是已經是大家的共識了呢?
就我所受的訓練背景來說,每一個定律都有其假設與適用範圍,況且 Moore's law 能不能稱為 law 還
是個問題,嚴格來說它應該是個 empirical observation 吧。
Moore 在論文提出的 statement 是這樣的:
The complexity for minimum component costs has increased at a rate of roughly a factor of two
per year ... Certainly over the short term this rate can be expected to continue, if not to increase.
Over the longer term, the rate of increase is a bit more uncertain, although there is no reason to
believe it will not remain nearly constant for at least 10 years. That means by 1975, the number
of components per integrated circuit for minimum cost will be 65,000. I believe that such a large
circuit can be built on a single wafer.
他從頭到尾談的都是積體電路,從他原本的論點引申,現今對 Moore's law 最常見的陳述方式是:積體電路內
transistor 的數目每隔 18 個月就會倍增。
當然從這裡延伸出去可以有很多 implication,但您要說那也是 Moore's law 嗎?回到電子產業(尤其是消費
性電子)的發展,大體上的確是越晚期的產品功能越多、越強大但相對的價格卻越低廉。可是那一個消費性產
業不是這樣?您要說這也是廣義的 Moore's law 也行,但一項商品價格的長期性變動是受到很多因素影響的,
我不認為可以簡單的用一項因素就可以說明。
關於報紙雜誌,上面多半是些 garbage information,看看就好。
