If great French climber Richard Virenque still raced, this would be a day for him. The mountains early and in the middle of the stage will be hell for sprinters and tired legs.
Of course there will be some that don’t have tired legs and are waiting for a stage just like this to make everyone wince half in pain and half hatred, as they attack up the road early on.
For me, this is a day for the durable climber that perhaps isn’t quite in the GC race. Maybe Luis Leon Sanchez or Amael Moinard? Or Jens Voigt?

他曾是2006年環法賽的黃衫得主，
(遞補因禁藥問題而於賽後被取消資格的PHONAK車隊美國車手Floyd Landis)
(有意思的是 → 他於2004、2005、2007年的環法賽都以GC總成績第10名收場)
去年環法賽於第15站(2008.07.20)的事故中摔斷手臂而退賽。
他本是Caisse d'Epargne車隊今年環法賽設定的GC主將(111號)，
第八站開賽前，他的GC排名是第38名，
落後黃衫Rinaldo Nocentini (AG2R La Mondiale車隊) 5分36秒。
他在第8站自 Andorra 出發後90公里處宣布棄賽，
原因何在？
他的說法為何？有以下的報導：
The Spaniard of team Caisse d'Epargne said he just did not have the form to complete the race.(按：就是狀況不佳啦)
“I have had very bad sensations since the Tour started from Monaco," said Pereiro. “It was no use to go on like that and I prefer to concentrate on my next objective which should be the Tour of Spain.”
推測他因去年環法的傷勢，
直至今年的 the Tour Down Under (環南澳賽) 才復出，
調整的狀況並不理想，
所以...暫且退出環法賽，
並將備戰的目標瞄準今年最後1場 Grand Tour大賽 → 環西賽。
倒是預計遞補他車隊 leader 地位的另1位西班牙車手 Luis León Sánchez Gil (118號)，
隨後即奪得第8站的冠軍，
這真是1個強而有力的回應呀！
