I am interested to buy a brand new Giant bike. And, the model is Defy. However, is it possible to buy Defy 1 not 3 in Taiwan? Thanks.

The last Defy 1 on Taiwan market that I know was released on 2012.
There's no Defy 1 released after that while Defy 1 2014 is available in US.
If you really want a Defy in Taiwan and you might need to buy a Defy 3 and upgrade related parts to suit your needs (e.g. upgrade from Sora to 105).

By the way, the front derailleur of all entry level Defy in Taiwan have 3 disks to give you 30-speed while 2-disk front derailleur is used in US. This is a major difference that you have to be aware of.
Sora is not good? and how much to upgrade 105?

SORA is commonly used on entry level road bikes and it's 9-speed (the 105 5700 is 10-speed, the latest 105 5800 is 11-speed).
It's a great option for someone who has limited budget.
See the level and approximate price listed below:

SORA ($8000) > TIAGRA ($15000) > 105 ($20000)

With SORA (recreational level), you can enjoy “similar” shifting efficiency like a Pro at a small price to pay.
If you upgrade to 105 or higher (racing level), you will have quicker and accurate shifting experience.

To upgrade from SORA to 105 might costs you 15000 or higher.
You will be better off to get a road bike comes with 105.

SORA is fairly enough to enjoy the efficiency and speed of a road bike while 105 will push that to another level.
Despite all that, if you are riding a bike just for fun, Sora should to it and save you a lot of money.
However, if you like challenge, racing, and competition, 105 or higher is strongly recommended.

Thanks for your great advice. In addition, will the maintenance of gear cause problem later, such as: parts if I bought Defy 3 2014? I went to Richardson Bike Mart and asked for opinion. They said -- Sora is old model, and recommend me to get 105 anyway. Based on what you said, I should buy Defy Composite directly because it comes with 105?

These parts are durable nowadays and there's no need to worry about maintenance within 5 years if you took good care of it. In addition, getting new 9-speed parts or compatible won't be a problem, too. The only concern is when you want to upgrade some parts or wheel sets since the 10-speed or 11-speed is the main stream. You might need to upgrade your SORA as well.

If you would like to upgrade things soon, you should go for 10-speed Tiagra or 11-speed 105 to get more options on better parts. Otherwise having an entry level Defy 3 to start with and getting to know what you like is an good option for a new rider.

By the way, 2015 Giant road bikes have been announced and price is good. If you would like to go for 105 model, make sure you get 11-speed 5800 unless there's a big discount on a 10-speed model.
Thanks for this great information.

1. I want to buy a bike that can be used for an "experienced, & advanced" cyclist. Therefore, a better equipment, such as: 105, or 碳纖維車架 will be my concern. Then, an entry-level Defy 3 is good for me?

2. In addition, where to find the information about Giant 2015 road bike? I only can find the 2014 model at http://www.giantcyclingworld.com/web/bikes_list.php?style_id=10009&level_id=10006&where_id=10003

3. I do swim, bike, and run. However, I just want to "enjoy" my exercising not racing any more. I am 42 years old, and average speed is around 18 miles
(group riding). In addition, weekend is the only time I can do biking for about 2 hours.

For "experienced, & advanced" cyclist, I will suggest to have a road bike with 105 or above and Advanced or above carbon frame. TCR ADVANCED 2 or DEFY ADVANCED 2 would be a good starting point. Defy composite 2 may not meet advanced cyclist's need.

The model information on the official Taiwan Giant site got some problem.
Have a look at the URL listed below:

Personally, to be honest, if you are really interested in cycling, I really suggest you raise ur buget to the advanced level. The 2015 tcr advanced level is the most cheapest tcr adv ever. You can have 11speed 105 for 49800 and 10speed tiagra for 42800, normally, you can have 85% doscount. You are interested in Defy, Defy adv win great credit in 2012~14,even the best bike award in 2013. I think iit is a great opptunity to get defy adv in 2015 model, since that 2014 sell 62800.
