Euro NCAP, the organisation which conducts official crash tests on new cars, is due to announce how the Corsa fared next Friday (August 25). However, Vauxhall's Helmut Ruff says: "Our internal tests lead us to feel we will be at the front of the segment for safety."
The new model has longer front overhangs and a taller bonnet line to provide more protection for both occupants and pedestrians.
It has a minimum of two airbags compared with the one in the outgoing model, and six airbags are standard in three of the five trim levels.
The front passenger airbag can be deactivated at the touch of a button when carrying a baby in a rear-facing child seat.
