)The fight has finally reached the surface as the rumors of SM Entertainment vs Mnet now stands to be true.
On march 2nd, SM Entertainment had officially stopped authorizing the online downloading/streaming of all SM Entertainment music property. This includes present big stars of DBSK, SNSD, Super Junior, Shinee, F（x）, The Trax, The Grace, and past stars of H.O.T, S.E.S, Fly to the Sky, Shinhwa (up to 5th album).
SM Entertainment stopped the authorization because they have just discovered that Mnet illegally used SM Entertainment's music on various advertisements and many ASP sites, and Mnet seems to have indirectly gained profit that was not within the limits of the contract. SM Entertainment further argues that, 「We were never notified of any uses in ASP sites and advertisements, and we are shocked to see that our contract was only a piece of paper to Mnet.」
The conflict was already beginning to show last year when SM Entertainment and its stars boycotted the 2009 MAMA awards. Back then, there was a rumor that the conflict was over Mnet trying to take control of distribution of CD's of SM Entertainment, but now the conflict will take place on the web where most of the music transactions take place.
In the long run, both companies will be hurt. Mnet will undoubtedly lose tens of thousands of customers on Mnet.com, and SM Entertainment will lose the 2nd biggest online music company (1st being Melon).
