英文文法一問(有關時態)

因為國高中英文文法沒學好，想請教懂文法的大大。
我看到有一句對話是這樣：
A: We were supposed to take a left at the last intersection, weren't we?
B: Yes, we shouldn't have gone straight.

為什麼B不說：Yes, we shouldn't go straight. ???

因為對話是說

「我們剛才應該要在十字路口左轉的，不是嗎？」

「是啊，我們剛才不應該直走過去的」

都是之前已經發生的事情了。
