The first thing is, is the Treo 700 really on CDMA 2000 1XEVDO Rev. 0 / Rev. A? Or it’s just on CDMA 2000 1XRTT? CDMA 2000 1XRTT’s top speed is only 144 kbit/s.
The second thing is, EDGE is not THAT slow. I have tried using EDGE on Cingular and Hong Kong Peoples with my PowerBook and it is able to reach 220kbit/s with good signals.
The third thing is, AT&T might have compressed text and images on their EDGE network.
Forth, it’s Treo’s rendering engine slower than that of the iPhone.
All of the above reasons could lead to the above situation.
