國外解決的經驗談 Solution!!! I, like a lot of other people imported an AT&T phone from the USA for use in Australia. However upon getting it I too had a number of issues. After research and experimentation I finally found out the solution.
STEP 1: Make sure you have the correct Blackberry Bold 9700. There are two models, the 'RCM71UW' usually branded as AT&T and is compatible with the Telstra NextG Network. The other model is the 'RCN71UW' which is compatible with Optus, Vodaphone etc etc. I got mine from SELECTGSM and you can be assured that this is the correct one for the telstra network.
STEP 2: Make sure you have the latest firmware. Prior to updating I was unable to make calls and send SMS messages. I found the latest firmware 5.0.0.593 after searching these forums and used the instructions to install it. Once installed I was ABLE to make calls but still UNABLE to make SMS messages.
STEP 3: Get a new SIM card. I went to the local telstra shop and the employee assured me that "all Next G cards are exactly the same". Upon pulling out my phone sim card out and comparing it with cards at the shop they were obviously different. My card (the older sim card) if you look at the electronic contacts they are shaped in an oval configuration whilst the telstra card (newer sim card) the electronic contacts are in a square configuration. Upon placing in the new card everything now works perfectly!!!! *Ps when you go to the telstra shop make sure you tell them that the current sim card is faulty otherwise you'll have to fork over $33 for a new one!
*Also note that upgrading to the latest sim card may make step 2 unnecessary.
Well, I hope this at least helps. Cheers. Muz
---------------------------------------------- To confirm both the 850Mhz (AT&T and Telstra version) and 900Mhz (T-Mobile, Optus and Vodafone version) versions also support 2100Mhz 3G which is supported by all carriers. So even though the AT&T version doesn't support the new 900Mhz Optus 3G network it will still connect\operate on 2100Mhz where available.
