We know you're itching to get your hands on a Nexus One -- Google's managed to build buzz here the way only a couple companies in the world know how. Unfortunately, it sounds like you're going to need to cross your fingers (or pull out that eBay emergency stash) to get one out of the gate, because we've got some intel here suggesting that it'll be available only by "invitation" at first. Our tipster doesn't have information on how those invites are going to be determined, other than the fact that it's Google doing the inviting -- if we had to guess, current registered developers are a strong possibility -- but the good news, we suppose, is that T-Mobile will apparently sell the phone directly at some to-be-determined point in the future. Oh, but that's not all -- we've got specs, too. Lots of them. Here are the highlights, but follow the break for the whole shebang:
* Android 2.1
* 11.5mm thick
* 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 4GB microSD in-box expandable to 32GB
* 5 megapixel camera with mechanical AF and LED flash
* HSPA 900 / 1700 / 2100, 7.2Mbps down and 2Mbps up -- in other words, yes to T-Mobile 3G and no to AT&T 3G, though you'll still be fine on EDGE
* 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display
Lately we noticed that Google can finally be compared to Apple in terms of marketing. I don’t argue the fact that the search giant has been down this path for a long time, but I can’t do anything except noticing that the Motorola Droid is becoming more and more popular, and what can we say about the HTC Nexus One aka the Google Phone? This phone hasn’t even been launched and millions of geeks around the globe are talking about it, kinda like the Apple Tablet situation.
Anyway, let’s get down to business because the guys at Engadget got their hands on the Nexus One spec list. Apparently, the HTC Nexus One will be powered by Android 2.1 OS, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, 4GB microSD card (in-box, but expandable up to 32GB), 3.7″ WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera with mechanical autofocus and LED flash, and HSPA 900 / 1700 / 2100 (meaning that the phone will work on T-Mobile’s 3G network, while AT&T is left out in the cold EDGE).
The HTC Nexus One will feature WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n (“N” power folks!), Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and A2DP support, AGPS, digital compass, accelerometer, microUSB port, proximity sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 1400mAh removable battery.
According to Engadget’s sources, the Google Phone will become available as of January 5th for people with a Google invitation. This means that you will need to wait for a special invitation from Google before going down to your local store and buying this smartphone. Well, we don’t know who’s getting these Google invitations, but we’re waiting for more information soon so stay tuned!
