Believe it or not...

In Taiwan, my wife used to drive her over 10 year old 2000 Maxima to overtake many slower car on some hilly sections of the highway...

Then, one day, Taiwan Highway Bureau, suddenly added a BIG traffic sign which showed "NO OVERTAKING ON UPHILL ROAD!!!"

Then, I asked my wife... "Did you really see that sign saying NO OVERTAKING???" My wife said "I swear I really saw that BIG sign on the highway!!!"

PS: Why cannot people overtake any slower cars on an UPHILL highway??? Isn't it supposed any slower cars should move to the right lanes to let any faster cars to overtake any slower cars especially on an UPHILL highway???
I think I become a little better in understanding how a hybrid car works... Let's take my son's new Accord as an example.

2.0 engine alone : 146hp, 134 lb-ft
Combined : 204hp, 247 lb-ft

The combined output looks very good especially for the torque which is almost as good as G35S!!!

However, the combined output is available only if the hybrid battery is NOT exhausted!!! Once the hybrid battery is exhausted, the output would become pathetically 146hp which is from 2.0 engine!!! (That's why my son's new Accord Hybrid was struggling on a LONG uphill highway!!!)

In addition, how long the hybrid battery could lasts will depend on how big the battery is. My son's new Accord has a very big trunk... So, the hybrid battery is definitely NOT big!!!

PS: For my driving style, I think hybrid cars could not be what I want, as I usually drive my car spiritedly... So, the hybrid battery could be exhausted very quickly!!!
Now, let's talk about Q50 hybrid...

I think Nissan/Infiniti tried to build a higher performance Q50, which is Q50 hybrid, to compete with BMW 3.0t engine, as existing 3.7 engine is not as powerful as BMW 3.0t...

So, they put BIG motors and a BIG hybrid battery in Q50 Hybrid. Yes. Q50 Hybrid actually has very good performance, just like many hybrid super cars these days!!! (Don't be fooled by those stupid comments about how bad Q50 hybrid is!!!)

However, there was a BIG drawback in Q50 Hybrid which was the big hybrid battery actually took a lot of space from its trunk, and let Q50's trunk size was even smaller than the current Supra's and only a little bigger than 370Z's!!!

If Q50 hybrid had been built for economy, not for performance and still keep its big trunk intact, I think I would have definitely bought one... (Q50 hybrid has a big 3.5 engine!!! Unlike my son's Accord Hybrid, even though Q50's hybrid battery is exhausted, Q50 hybrid still has plenty of power!!!)

Q70 Hybrid has a bigger trunk but the trunk is still TOO SMALL for a family car!!! (A BIG MISTAKE!!!)

Now, let's talk about the incoming Lexus supercar LFR or LFA2...

Actually LFS's 4.0t engine only provides about 720hp, not 900hp. Like many other hybrid cars, 900hp is available, only if its hybrid battery is NOT exhausted.

How long you can drive with 900hp in LFR depends on how big its hybrid battery is. The bigger hybrid battery the longer you can drive with that additional 180hp. However, a big hybrid battery could take a lot of space from the car and add more weight to the car, just like Q50 Hybrid!!!

I think a Hybrid system does NOT intend to improve your car performance on the highway, especially on tracks, but actually rather improve the performance in city which could let your gas engine car feel as fast as modern EVs in city, and get a better MPG, especially in city!!!
Now, let's talk about NSX hybrid...

Weight : 3878lbs
3.5t engine alone : 500hp, 406lb-ft
Combined : 573hp, 476 lb-ft

GT-R
Weight : 3915lbs
3.8t engine : 565hp, 467 lb-ft

RCF
Weight : 3958lbs
5.0 engine : 467hp, 389 lb-ft

So, if NSX's hybrid battery is exhausted, NSX Hybrid could be just a little faster than RCF... (I also believe on tracks, NSX's hybrid battery should be exhausted a bit more quickly)

No wonder GT-R is still the king on tracks... Of course, in daily driving and no race, NSX could feel as fast as GT-R on highway. However, in City, NSX hybrid should definitely feel a bit faster than GT-R...

So, some people said Q50 Hybrid was not as fast as 335i. That's only a part of story... In city, Q50 Hybrid should beat 335i EASILY!!! In daily driving and no race, Q50 hybrid could still feel faster than 335i!!! Like GT-R, 335i can beat Q50 Hybrid only on track...
In my opinion, Nissan is defeated by Toyota, as Toyota is doing TOO GOOD recently!!!

Toyota, Honda and Nissan have similar products and customers. However, Nissan was FASTER(or SMARTER) than the other two. Faster(or smarter) is good in a shorter term but not so good for a longer term.

Now, Nissan has to pay THE PRICE!!! And, Nissan didn't changed long before TOO LATE!!! Now, no matter how good you did in the past 20-30 years, everything is just too late!!! (My daughter M35X trunk lid is aluminum but my GSF's is steel, even though GSF's MSRP is almost two times of M35X's!!! I think Nissan did try to provide customers with some BETTER cars!!!)

I hope Nissan can survive as Toyota, Honda and Nissan all make wonderful and reliable cars but each of them has its pros and cons. So, we could buy more diverse or different character cars if they all exist!!!

Nissan is in trouble is not a new news. It already happened in 2000 once!!! (Hope Nissan can also survive this time!!! Go! Go! Good luck, Nissan!!!)
I would like to provide some of my experience about Nissan...

In 2002, my car was 1998 Altima 2.4 and I test drove a brand new 2002 Altima 2.5... Guess what... I was a bit disappointed, as the new 2002 Altima 2.5 looked a lot bigger and fancier but also looked a bit CHEAPER!!! I also immediately felt the steering of 2002 Altima was not as precise as my 1998 Altima's, even though I just drove that 2002 Altima on the highway for only about 3 minutes!!!

However, 2002 Altima was A LOT bigger and fancier, so, in 2002, 2002 Altima was actually sold like A HOT CAKE which was about as good as Camry and Accord!!! (Finally, Altima became as popular as Camry and Accord!!!)
In my opinion, Nissan and Honda each has pros and cons...

In 2002, my cars were 1998 Altima and 1995 Accord LX 5MT. I also test drove a 2000 Integra 5MT and 2001 Prelude 5MT and didn't like them as they both did NOT feel a lot faster than my Altima and Accord. The 5MTs in Intergra and Prelude did NOT feel a lot better or smoother than my old Accord's!!!

Yes. Intergra and Prelude are definitely better than my Altima and Accord but you have to have some GOOD DRIVING SKILLS and push them to the limit ALL THE TIME as their engines are only 1.8 and 2.2 which were less than my Altima's 2.4 engine!!! Otherwise, those fancier Hondas would NOT be faster!!!

That's why I, an average driver, changed to Nissan after I owned TWO Hondas... In addition, I don't think Honda is more reliable than Nissan... Maybe Toyota is more reliable than Nissan but NOT Honda!!! (but I believe Honda has better engines...)
1998-2001 Altima : Length=185.8in, Weight=3057lb
2002 Altima : Length=191.5in, Weight=3069lb

1998-2001 Altima was about as big as IS350 but 2002 Altima was about as big as GS350. So, 2002 Altima was A LOT bigger than the previous generation Altima!!! However, both weights were still about the same... NO CHANGES!!! So, the 2002 Altima felt like an inflated balloon!!! (So, Nissan did a major cost cut on 2002 Altima.)

No sure about Infinitis??? Were 2003 G35s or Skylines also inferior to its previous generation??? (I don't know as I never own any G35 or Skyline before 2003???)

However, I do know Nissan did a great job on R35 GT-R!!! (Of course, everybody also knows this!!!)

PS: Now, I suddenly think my 1998 Altima could be a very good car as 1998-2001 Altima was a bit smaller than 2002 Camry or Accord but the weight of 1998-2001 Altima was about the same as 2002 Camry or Accord... (So, the body rigidity of 1998-2001 Altima should be a bit higher!!!) Unfortunately, no one liked it!!! (except me!!!)
Thank God! My daughter's 2010 M35X had NO ISSUES except oil changes and new rear brake pads, since we replace the radiator and two intake pipes in 2023 summer!!!

Now, the mileage is 86K miles.

In 2022 summer, the used car price of 2010 M35X with 60K was about 9500USD. Now, 2025, the price is still 7500USD!!! So, only 2000USD depreciation for 3 years and 26K miles!!! (But, don't be too confident that you could buy a very good condition M35X like my daughter's on used car market!!! It's still possible, not rarely!!!)

PS: I bought my daughter's M35X in 2011 winter with over 2 year and 7K mile existing usage from an Infiniti used car lot!!!
