Try the clik USB tools from NEC. I got a USB 2.0 USB2IDE adaptor work with the NEC 730F. 730F is also a MIPS HPC Pro Machine.
The adapter is a low-end one that uses ordianry GL-811 chipset.
Just enter USBclik when asked for USB driver name and voila.
But the HPC can only read a single partition and this is also the case with MY usb card reader. the HPC can only read the first flash card, say CF slot on most readers.
I never further look into the issue as I read on other sources that this is due to the limations of HPC pro OS. Is it true?
Now i use another Sharp HPC Hc-aj1 and does not try out connecting to a hDD yet, as reading a HDD is of little use to me. But i am pretty sure that the USB clik driver wokrs too.
Btw, some USB chipsets do not support old hd smaller than 5G, especially those USB 2.0 products
