Wire your Power PC with Anypak portability
This is the portable configuration showing relative sizes. The Anypak pictured is a 20GB unit, but enclosures are all the same size regardless of capacity. Power is supplied by four (4) Ni-MH 1.2 AA rechargeable batteries.
The Anypak is only 11mm thin (less than 1/2 inch) and weighs about 4.5 ounces.
All parts are easily attainable from any electronics store.
Note that the Toshiba USB interface is a simple cable connector with integrated AC port available for $29.00 from Toshiba.
Read about the Anypak drive in Computer Buyer Magazine.
The Toshiba USB interface is cheaper than the Expansion Pack (which provides a VGA graphical interface) $29.00 vs $99.00. If external graphics support isn't required, then save the $70.00.
The PS/2 and USB "Y" cable is included with the Anypak HDD. It will supply additional power from the PS/2 port for instances where the USB port does not provide the requisite 500mV. For PPC portability, the PS/2 end can be plugged directly into a battery pack.
22 gauge wire should be plenty. Wrap it with some heat-shrink tubing for a finished appearance. Be sure to limit the cable length from the battery pack to the PS/2 port to less than 24 inches.

Here is a close-up of the PS/2 pin-out connections showing the soldering pins for positive and negative. The RED lead from the battery pack is soldered to the positive pin and the BLACK lead is soldered to the negative pin.
Absolutely, the World's Smallest USB 2.0 Portable Hard Disk Drive!
