appiepie82,
I thought you should do interviews in bay area and match the new offer with MS' offer now. But it seems a bit too late?

Most of the jobs in US are "At will" type of work, there is no x years of contract to sign. You just don't get to keep the sign on bonus, the employee stock options, relocation money, and other little things if you quit in a short period of time.

And in most of the cases, if you have to leave the money on the table, your new company that hires you will give you something equally valuable in return.

Twitter's CEO just cut 8% of jobs a few days ago.
MS got rid off Steve and it's the guy from India sitting on that seat now.
If this happens to you in MS, will you be alright?
I meant on the financial situation(you didn't identify yourself as the richest 2nd gen) and VISA issue(you didn't identify yourself as an American).

You guys are in the same time zone and calling each other everyday on MS' Skype should be easy. I once knew someone who had to call from NYC to Hawaii. That was a real "cry dad" situation. Flying with a cheap butt airline isn't expensive. Sometimes employee can work from boy/girlfriend's home on Friday.

MS has an office in bay area, CA. After you work for a while, maybe you can transfer.
OR
If he doesn't like Apple or bay area, he can try Amazon in your city.

Thank you for your advice! I haven't signed the contract yet so nothing is too late. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "If this happens to you in MS, will you be alright?" If you mean layoffs, I think many other companies are doing layoffs as well.
I don't have VISA issue since I'm an US citizen.
Although it's true that I'm not from a rich family, but right now my top concern is more about getting work experience and keeping the relationship. >_<
