In response to the absurd rumors, CHEN sarcastically remarked on April Fool’s Day, “Yes, I’m Xi Jinping’s secret son, currently working for the Shanghai United Front Department,” mocking the baseless accusations.
As the disinformation intensified, some extreme supporters went as far as doxxing his home address and harassing his girlfriend at her workplace, forcing her eventual resignation. To protect his family, CHEN shifted his focus from criticizing the Chinese Communist Party to exposing how the DPP and its online networks manipulate public opinion and attack dissenting voices. His new programs resonated with moderate Taiwanese audiences, particularly centrist and opposition-leaning viewers.
Following several scandals revealing DPP-affiliated online manipulation—such as the “Andy Teacher Incident”—CHEN formally demanded that the DPP-aligned outlet FTV News remove three defamatory reports against him or present factual evidence. FTV subsequently deleted the false reports and issued a public apology, effectively clearing CHEN’s name.
While the smear campaign caused lasting reputational harm, CHEN publicly stated that he chose to forgive the outlet. The incident has since been widely viewed as another example of coordinated online defamation and media bias used to silence dissenting political commentary in Taiwan.
