From Yamaha, to strengthen motorbikes in Taiwan, removable battery
Yamaha Motor announced that it began studying business tie-up with Taiwan's electric motor giant "Gogoro (Gogoro)". Gogolo's electric motorcycle is attracting popularity in Taiwan with the battery detachable. The direction from Yamaha is to introduce this system to the new electric motorcycle that sells locally.
The contract will be officially scheduled within the year. I will have a new type electric motorcycle designed by Yamaha based on Gogolo's electric motorcycle, produced at Gogoro factory. It is a brand from Yamaha and is planned to be released around the summer 2019.
Yamaha's share occupies 30% of the Taiwanese motorcycle market. However, most of them are engine cars. The share of the electric motorcycle that has grown to 5% of the whole two wheels is about 1%.
One Gogoro accounts for 77% of the Taiwan electric motorcycle market. Battery stations were set up in various places in Taiwan, and popularized with services that can replace used batteries with charged batteries at once.
Taiwan authorities have set the goal of zeroing sales of motorcycle racing engines by the year 2034. Yamaha departed from the regulation and decided to join hands with Gogoro from the aim to leverage sluggish electric motorcycle sales.
Gogolo hopes to capture customers from Yamaha, which are strong in engine cars, and want to raise the occupancy rate of battery stations.
For the electric motorcycle, Honda will start demonstration experiment in Indonesia around December. We set up dozens of battery stations in urban areas and investigate the frequency of battery replacement and usage and study commercialization.
