The last reply of that threat has the answer you want, and the numbers are bascially based on the famous "3H Theory" in the TV industry.
Take myself for example, I feel that my TV is too small while the distance between my sofa and TV is 1.8m, and my TV is a Pioneer PureVision 4270 (which absolutely has better picture quality than most, in not any, 42" LCD you can find in the market).
So, go get a 50" Plasma
Disclaimer: I worked for Pioneer 4 years ago. Even though I am in no way related to the AV industry anymore, I would wholeheartedly recommend Plamsa for anyone who is considering buy a new TV, preferrably a Pioneer/Panasonic, depending on your budget.
