Looks like we’re getting right into it! Two new Power Books announced today, a 15-inch and 17-inch upgrade.

12:14pm - Oh, and SuperDrive (DVD burners, that is) will be standard. Apple Cinema HD support is now built-in as well. Expect the 12-inch to retial now for $1,500, the 15-inch for $2,000, and the 17-inch for $2,500. All are available now.

12:15pm - Looks like the G5 isn’t out yet, too. They’ve bumped the L2 cache on new G5-based systems to 1MB, and added dual-core support (as expected) with dual velocity engines.

12:16pm - These chips will be used in the new dual-core Power Macs, which will support 16GB of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM, and can rock up to 1TB of internal storage. They’ll come equipped with PCI-Express (finally!), and are being launched with four nVidia cards, including something in the way of a Quadro FX 4500. All four cards support the 30-inch Cinema Display, and you can add up to a total of four 30-inchers, now.

12:17pm - The product is called the Power Mac G5 Quad—that’s a total of four operating cores, 76.6 gigaflops. The Quad will be available in early November.

12:19pm - Now on to the Cinema Displays… new pricing on the 23-inch, down to $1299. The 30-inch will also get a price drop. That’s it for hardware! But there’s more…

12:24pm - Apple’s also introducing a new post-production tool for photographers today. It’s called Aperture. The idea is to make shooting in RAW as easy as shooting in JPEG.

12:34 AM EDT: Built specifically for photographers, Aperture features end-to-end RAW workflow, and makes RAW as easy to work with as JPEG.
A feature called Stacks lets photographers group sequences of shots together based on the time between shutter clicks. The software features a full-screen workspace and a completely editable environment that can span multi-image displays.

12:36 AM EDT: The multi-image viewer lets you check images side-by-side, up to 10 or 12 on a side, at magnifications up to 800%. Aperture also sports essential tools like red-eye reduction, cropping, straightening, and more. It features non-destructive workflow and versioning tools.

12:37 AM EDT: Apuerture users can quickly create and print layouts, can customise proof sheets and contact sheets. You can also order prints online or publish to .Mac.

在 10/19 的特別發表會上，果如傳言一般，Apple 發表新款 PowerBook 與 PowerMac。PowerBook 新產品線主要更新 15 吋與 17吋兩款。現在 15 吋機種配備與前代 17 吋機種一樣解析度為 1440 x 900 的螢幕；17 吋機種則配備解析度 1680 x 1050 像素的螢幕（這與 Apple 的 20 吋 Cinema Display 同等級）。而且新款 PowerBook 的電池續航力增加了 22%，配備標準的 DVD-RW "SuperDrives" 並內建支援 Apple 30 吋 Cinema HD Display。價格分別為： 12 吋機型 $1,499 美元，15 吋機型 $1,999，17 吋機型 $2,499。

新的 Power Mac G5 配備雙核處理器，系統架構支援 16GB 的 533MHz DDR2 記憶體。此外還可裝載 1TB 的內接 Serial ATA 儲存裝置，並在 Power Mac 上首次使用 PCI Express 擴充槽。繪圖晶片採用的是 Nvidia 的 Quadro FX 4500，顯示卡支援兩個 30 吋顯示器。有的機型採用單個雙核處理器，包括 2.0GHz ($1999 美元) 與 2.3GHz ($2499 美元) 機型。雙處理器機型使用兩個雙核處理器，售價 $3299 美元。
