Goodyear introduces Kelly light truck tire
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has rolled out the Kelly Safari TSR all-terrain light truck tire.
Initially available this spring in 12 sizes, ranging from 15 inches to 18 inches in diameter, the tire targets the Dodge Ram, Ford F-Series, Toyota Tacoma and other vehicles.
Features include a patented rock tread pattern for extra traction; staggered shoulder blocks to aid handling in mud, sand and gravel; zig-zap siping for wet weather handling; and others.
The Safari TSR comes with a 30-day test drive, "which allows a consumer to buy the tires with an opportunity to try them for 30 days," say Goodyear officials. "If not completely satisfied with the tires within that period, they can be exchanged for a different set of Kelly tires."

Goodyear is the "Official Tire of NASCAR" and has been involved with the sport of NASCAR for more than 50 years.
Teams pay nearly $1,700 a set for Goodyear tires ($421 ea.) and can use up to 15 sets of tires per race.
The tubeless inner liner tire is used at tracks one mile or more in length. They are also mandatory at Bristol Motor Speedway on the right side. An inner is a tire inside a tire and used as a safety precaution allowing teams to return to pit road for service if they experience a blown tire. The inner liners cost approximately $90 a tire.
While Goodyear fills all tires at the track with air, teams will deflate their tires 100% and refill the inner and outer liner with nitrogen. Pure nitrogen is "dry air" while oxygen has varying levels of moisture. By adding nitrogen, teams are limiting the amount of moisture in the tires making them more stable under the intense heat.
"Sticker" tires are brand new tires that have the factory-issued sticker on the exterior. "Scuffs" are tires that teams break-in by running several laps on them during practice for use later in the race.
The "footprint" of a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series tire is the amount of rubber that touches the track surface. Typically the footprint is roughly the size of a men's size 11 shoe. The "contact patch" is the amount of rubber from all four tires touching the track at any given moment.

The wheel was invented a very long time ago. But, the first rubber tire was invented in 1839 by Charles Goodyear. Up until this point, riding in cars was very uncomfortable because the older wheels made the ride rough.
In 1830, Charles Goodyear wanted to make a rubber product that the general public could put to use. He bought a truckload or raw rubber from a shoe factory and began his experiment to turn it into a complete solid. There was a small set back when Goodyear was sent to prison for not paying
his debt from the rubber purchase. But, this did not stop him. While he was in prison he continued his experiments. When he was finally released, the product he had been working on had the consistency of gum. He then discovered that he was able to harden the rubber my mixing it with sulfur and then treating it with an acid gas. While tossing the rubber ball around it accidentally landed on top of a heated stove. The rubber began to change phase and melt, instead of scorching. This was a surprise to Goodyear. When he began to scrape the rubber off of the stove he realized it had hardened to the consistency he was aiming for. With the discovery of vulcanization, and the beginning of the industrial revolution in both Europe and North America, the tire evolved from a rubberized canvas protecting a rubber tube to a complex fabric, steel andVulcanization was invented by Charles Goodyear in 1839.
