After viewing your photos I think you have done one hell of great job on portrait works.
As far as what a good portrait requires are:

2: Expression of thoughts which indicates mood

I myself only focus on portrait works in photography. I have seen a lot of good portrait works and I have to say you are one of the natural born photographers with keen eyes. Your works have successfully shown you got more than just basic skills but also great sense of capturing moments.
It has been a pleasure viewing your photographic works and your photos do tell stories on itselves. I super envy people like you who is capable of capturing precious moments of life with camara in hand.
I believe you could still produce excellent photos with any camara even if just a DC or MobilePhone. Please do continue develop and cultivate your keen eyes to this world.
As one of the previous posts suggests, since your photos are mostly portraits, please do consider prime lenses like 35mm 50mm and 85mm or even 135mm for your future portrait works. These prime lenses will not improve your skill but they are good tools to help you to illustrate what you want to express in your portrait works.

Humn... I guess you don't really understand what I am trying to tell you.
Please do not look down on yourself. As far as your photos show, you have exceeded above normal portrait photographer's level.
What you need in your photos is a good "STORY".
A good story should have the following virtues:
1. plot
2. characters
3. conflicts
4. climax
5. resolution
6. and so on
Ask yourself, what do you see from the portraits of the past US Presidents? It is just a photo or it might be just a painting. If you look real carefully, you can see stories behind the eyes of the portraits. Well, this is kind of a bad example because you probably don't have the background knowledge of the past US Presidents.
Another easy way for you to upgrade your portrait photography skill is to look at the good movie posters. Examine how professional photographers illustrait the characteristics of the actors and reflect that to 2D posters. You do get a feel or sense of portraits on good movie posters, don't you?
Every classical contemporary portrait work is cherished by professionals by some vital foundamental elements. This will get lengthy and I will not try to make you sleepy with this.
However, once again, don't look down on yourself. Just keep on taking pictures of your family members and make yourself happy with it. One day you will see improvement in your works.
