I have been searching for a all purpose portrit lens for a while. After checking out hundreds of photos from FLICKR.COM I found Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 is my ideal lens for mid to long range portrait lens.
Overall speaking, other than Sigma 50-150mm is designed for APSC bodies which you can not use it on FF bodies. I really think this is a good lens for me.
The other day I went to Sigma Taiwan in Taichung to cali my Sigma 50mmF1.4 and saw this Nikon guy with D90 and 50-150mmF2.8. He was nice enough to let me try his Sigma 50-150mm on his D90 body. Boy, am I shocked at how this 50-150mm performs. Amazing bokeh and color is excellent. Even at aperture swide open at F2.8 the lens performs so well on his D90. Man, I looked at my Canon 550D and I know the Sigma 50-150mm is my next general all-purpose portrait lens for me.
I tried Sigma 50-150mm at 50mm, 100mm, and 150mm inside Sigma Taiwan office 1st floor and found focus is quite accurate and if Sigma 50-150mm performs this well on Nikon D90 then I believe Sigma will perform as good as on my Canon 550D.
I don't know why Sigma 50-150mmF2.8 is not popular in Taiwan, however, I do see a lot of people choose this lens in Japan, US, and UK and some part of east Europe. Check Flickr and search this lens and you will see.
By the way, my local camara shop does not have in this len in stock. I called Sigma Taiwan and no luck too. Sigma Taiwan does not have this lens for Canon in stock too...... I guess Sigma Taiwan only wants to stock popular lenses. To them, Sigma 50-150mm is not popular and maybe that is why there are so limited quantities available in Taiwan.
My friends ask me why I want Sigma 50-150mmF2.8 when I already have S50F1.4 and C85F1.8 and Tamron A09? Well, I guess the flexibility of having 50-150mm at F2.8 is my top reason.
