The 2.5L Atkinson-Cycle Hybrid I-4 engine* is teamed with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT). As its name suggests, this transmission is designed to provide seamless shifting because there is no progression of gear changes in the usual sense. What's more, because the eCVT can compensate for changing vehicle speeds, it allows engine speed to remain at its level of peak efficiency, helping make the Fusion Hybrid the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan in America.**
