Honda Pilot 2007 (Added new pictures - March 9th 2007)

Hey superfire,

Congrats on your new vehicle! What a shiny SUV in the SoCal sunshine.

A little question for you. Do you find the 3rd row seat practical? I guess I am asking, would you be willing to sit in the 3rd row on a trip to Vegas? Your feedback would be highly appreciated here, as I am also shopping around for a bigger vehicle.
Lookin' good~ all that's missing on this vehicle are tinted windows all around and more $Bling rims and you are all set

to Lordofbritish:

Don't think any SUV's on the market actually offer "practical" 3rd row seats; unless you are interested in say....Ford Excursion (LMAO), but even with that beast, you'll still have to crawl between the 2nd row seats' gap to get in the back.

Judging by that Superfire has removed the headrests on the 3rd row...I'd say that he probably use it for blankets, tools and groceries (hehe, don't we all....)

Hi LordofBritish,

3rd row seats are tight. I would guess it is mainly for small children. If I would be the only person on the 3rd row seats, I would be ok. Otherwise, i would not think it is comfortable much at all.
Sad to say that, I mostly drive the SUV with my wife (so, it only counts as 2 people).

If you are looking for a full size SUV, I would suggest you to check out Toyota (Sequoia), Nissan (Armada, same base with QX56), and Infiniti (QX56), Lincoln Navigator (Large or regular).

It depends on what your budget is and what kind of brand / model you are interested.

If you are interested, you can PM me and share some info :)

p.s. by the way, the gas is so expensive in So Ca and you might want to consider trying NOT to get a full size SUV (unless you must buy it).

p.p.s. Finding a parking space in Rowland Heights, MOnterey Park, Irvine is a b*tch. :|

Hee hee.. Moto...

Well, we can't tint the windows on the front row. Well, let me rephase this. Yes, owner can tint the windows on the front row but the cop must be able to see through the driver and passenger on the front row. Therefore, it is going to be a waste of money to tint the window.(driver can be fined if the window is tinted too dark).

Actually, the 2nd, 3rd row, and the trunk windows are not tinted but they are in the original "tinted" color. So it is a bit dark ad I don't plan to tint it again thou.

Regarding the bling bling rims.. man.. those are expensive. hee hee. I would rather change all rims to 19" or 20" and raise the car a bit higher.

Actually, few accessoaries will be purchased:

1) Cargo Cover (it covers the cargo area once the 3rd row seats are folded)
2) Cargo tray (once the 3rd row seats are down, it puts on top in the cargo area to prevent dirty..etc).
3) either side-steps or running board.

That is very true. I plan to fold down the 3rd seats so it increases more cargo area. I plan to carry no more than 4 people (including myself and my wife) on a trip. So, it provides more cargo space, and not too crowded in the car.

They have a "mini" hidden storage in the cargo area. That hidden storage is used for storing the headrests. right now, i use that area to store some junk stuff.. first aid box..etc.

Actually, the same rules apply in BC as well, only that our front windows (windshield, driver and passenger) are not allowed to be tinted what so ever.

I find tinted windows are great for blocking the sun and keeping the vehicle cooler in the summer. Plus, it's more comfortable for passengers in the back in case they'd like to take a nap and they keep your stuffs out of direct sight when parked (somewhat)

is the 3rd row seat removable? if it is, I'd junk it and put it in the garage...they are great for backyard BBQ's

don't up-size the tires if you already find the gasoline prices unbearable, 20"inchers have lot more rolling resistance and aerodynamic drag, your fule mileage will suffer; the inertia will also slow you down in around-town speeds

Lordofbritish:
how about a mini-van? Big, comfy, easy on gas (if you are hauling a big family)
they are great for roadtrips and with the engines they come with now, they are actually a ton of fun to drive (VVT-i, i-VTEC and Nissan's VQ35....yummy)

*on a side note...my dad's ex-mini-van Sienna hauled my ride's ass in drag-races....yep

The 3rd row seats are not removeable. I am not sure if it is good or bad thou. However, few weeks ago I watched a news on tv saying lot of car theives steal the 3rd row seats now.

What in the world...
Thanks a lot for the opinions, superfire and MotoNTG. That really helps a lot.

As for minivan, although I am married, I am not ready for the family man image. Nothing wrong with that, just not ready.

I've been looking at Mazda CX-9, Toyota 4Runner, Subaru B9 Tribeca, and Honda Pilot. CX-9 is biggest of them. It does have a comfortable 3rd row seat with decent legroom. But hard to get AWD models in SoCal. For the remaining, they all have the 3rd row seat option but not really practical. Subaru and Mazda dealers are aggressive, as they are really slow with hardly any customers going in.

I don't really want to go for full-size SUV. The fuel mileage would be a pain in the... Plus it's gonna be my wife's daily driver, so better not difficult to park in small parking spaces. Anyway, I'll post some pictures when I get my new vehicle.

For some reasons, I thought Mazda CX-9 is the similar size as Honda Pilot.

Do you have kids? do you have a big family (including your and your wife's side)?

My wife would not like to drive a Honda Pilot because she still has not got used of driving a SUV at all. But sooner or later, she would love it :)

How much is Mazda CX-9 going to cost? If AWD is hard to find in So Cal, the dealerships might not be willing to sell lower than MSRP.

If you are not in rush, just do more researches. :)
CX-9 exterior length is 199.8", while Pilot is 188". That's almost 1 foot longer, so I guess that translate into the legrooms. CX-9 would be starting from 28K for FWD models, and 30K for AWD. It's more like a crossover/minivan thing. I won't trust it for offroad.

Well, we don't have kids yet. But relatives and friends come and go. So there could be occasions that 7 seats would be a nice thing to have.
