Then, MS3 will be sold for 32K+ at least, it will be in the
different league ...
FWD is to keep price aforwdable in my opinion..

叫你朋友快點去換個winter tires或是好一點的A/S tires吧..
建議可以看看Nokian WR or Pirelli Nero Zero M&S...都是很好的A/S tires...


That was my car, and we were doing it on purpose.
AWD made me difficult to lose control (since I intended to drive
sideway)
I was trying to give a sudden snap to give up traction then
gain traction afterward. But the traction just totally gave way
due to the tire dont have much tread...
It was a long distance low speed sliding (prob like 5~10 mph)
You know its slow... but nothing you can do about it.
I agree with the fact that Falken RT615 is not good for snow...
,but my another set of oe rims is rubbered with Goodyear Eagle
F1 GSD....not an ideal snow tire, for now, I choose to just live with it.
Only about few days in a year we got snow here.
I never experienced any high end snow tire in snow, but from all other
all season tires, I have never seen a tire can handle icy road like mad.
As long as I drive normal.... I still gain little traction and car is movable.lol

If that's the case, maybe you can take a look at the Nokian WR. Some rated them as Winter tires.

BTW, I know you have a stage2 mod. How many horses do you have now? Did you do the STi-swap?

Since I have experience with many mid-end sporty cars, including WRX, Sti, MS3, S2K, EVO,GTi, ....etc, I would like to share some thoughts about MS3, Stock WRX, and my Stage II wrx. (I am Mark's friend with StageII wrx BTW)
Here are some categories

Power:
MS3 definitely stronger than "Stock WRX" on the "highway"
Due to 1. much better high end hps and torque curve
2. close gear ratio which keep rpm maintain at certain level
also yield better transition in power delivery
But from a dead stop, WRX will pull MS3 by considerable margin
because wrx are benefited to its AWD and large first gear ratio

Suspension and handling
MS3 is far beyond stock WRX. WRX seems to be built for comfort.
Almost every bushing on the car give high compliance for street
road. From the swaybar link bushings, trailingn arm bushings, control
arm bushings, diff bushings, strut top bushings...all are too soft
for my taste. MS3 feels relatively stiffer for its road manner, but still
give a comfortable ride IMO. At higher speed, WRX start to lean
like a boat in the corner, and any dynamic transition in cornering feels
very "disconnected". In contrast, MS3 is so much better, reasonable
responsive, reasonable comfort, plus its traction control really helps
"a millions" for unexperienced driver, overall, I would say its very
"forgiving", very suitable for majority of customers.
But, with all proper tuning on suspensions for WRX, then I would say
I will pick WRX. (WRX have HUGE aftermarket support...tons of options
and combinations) As long as you build it right, it can definitely out
perform MS3 in handling.


Drivetrain:

I personally really like MS3 's 6speed MT. Smooth and beautiful.
But the throw distance for this 6MT is a bit long IMO. A short
throw shifter is going to make you smile, highly recommanded!
On this part, WRX is fell behind, way behind. WRX uses early developed,
drivetrain from early 90s or late 80s.. poor design, notchy shifting feeling,
and "BAD ratios (US only)". If you like to pull your car like "maniac", you
have to save money to replace it sooner later... its going to break...
it happened every so often ... even on stock power level....
Sti 6 MT is a different story, a very durable gear can support up to
350 whp/toque (reported from NASIOC).
You have to know how to "drive" a 5MT on WRX (reported safe up to 280
wph/torque on NOSIOC).

Interor

MS3 > WRX but not by much ......
and I dont care about this part much, so lets skip this part.


Overall Conclusion

If you want to buy a car to do racing, sprinited driving, and everything
without changing any thing on the car (no modding at all):
MS3 >> WRX (hands down, no contest, MS3 is better in almost every aspect)

If you will pay some money (~2 K) to upgrade either car
MS3 ~ WRX
(Its a tough call, each owns its territory, my pick will be WRX,
since subaru has big community stand beind, large aftermarket support
, and "I own one")


If you want pure raw performance (handling, power, motorsport competetivity)
and willing to thow bigger money on either car, (say 5k).....

WRX > MS3


If you do pure "racing" ......and upgrade anything possible on either car,

WRX >>> MS3
(AWD > FWD is the undeniable fact, but this statement only become the
truth when the driver is a qualified good driver)


Another info to share:
In 2007 SCCA national solo-x tour,
The Sti beats other strong competetors such as EVO, S2K, and all other contenders and got the first place in "A stock", "STX", and "STU" classes.

For local events, I usually see EVO beats Sti...
So come down to the best drivers, it seems to me STi > EVO
EVO is so forgiving in handling, but lacks of the raw feel of controling
in "extreme conditions".

The "understeer nature" of WRX and Sti... can be easily altered by
doing a proper alignment, not even a thing to worry about....unless
you are such a nuts dont want to do a right alignment.

No I didnt do the any Sti swap (I dont know you mean the gearbox or engine)
I have 2.5 L engine same block as STi's.

I have cobb stage II power mod,
Koni/pink/font cc plate, rear group N top mounts
cusco 22/22 sways
whiteline HD endlinks
fender brace,
front/rear strut tower bars (Teins)
Group N drivetrain and engine mounts,
OZ ultraleggra on RT615 235/40/17

My car is mainly built for auto-cross ...
so, I did not emphasize on power so much,
I put 98% efforts on handling tunnings..

如果換輕一點的輪框加好一點的輪胎可以讓MAZDASPEED3表現更好喔!

前陣子下雪換上爛爛的ALL SEASON TIRE之後

下雨天一檔上坡WOT 後輪連地面都抓不住還會扭屁股呢
從STI 05年小改款 輪框變成PCD 5X114.3 8J之後 我幫朋友裝了 RT615 255/40/17 不用ROLL FENDER也不會磨到

MARK404040大 未來可以考慮前輪用 235/40/18 或是 245/40/18 (輪框有升級的話 我想原廠可能裝不太下) 後輪維持 215/45/18 這種設定不單單讓你的煞車性能大增 轉彎也減少非常多的轉向不足 缺點是大概會犧牲 0%~5% 的直線加速吧

這是我用的手套 他有3D形狀 所以很舒服 然後手心的材質 也可以抓真皮跟反皮 如果只有純反皮的手套 只有抓反皮的方向盤才抓的住 另外我上一篇有說到 如果你想用反車的手套也可以 只是FIA要禁止在正式比賽使用了 因為防火性能不如內車手套

再換輪框的當天四輪較正也會順便做囉.這樣下去應該在轉彎大大提升
