I used to live in Salt Lake City, Utah. After San Francisco, follow I-80 East and ride through Donner Pass and visit Lake Taheo on your way to Reno. You will see the Great Salt Lake before arriving the Salt Lake City. After that, take I-15 South and visit Bryce Canyon, Arches NP, and Zion NP. After that, you can visit Mexican Hat, Monument Valley (Must see) and then Glen Canyon. Utah has the most NPs in US, great outdoors, but hot and warm in summer.

When you ride up to Oregon and Washington boarder, try to turn right into the Gorge, Columbia River area. It is very beautiful out there, I drove by there once long long time ago. I plan to ride there, but don't know when, ha.
