A little curiosity has Friday to offer Intel. In a Product Change Notification

It states that the hiring of an old 22nm processor from the year 2013 has bee
n lifted and this will be produced again due to a new roadmap. The reason is l
ikely to lie in the blatant 14-nm delivery problems.

In particular, small processors Intel produces only sparsely in the 100-percen
t loaded 14-nm process, the focus is on Core and Xeon – making Intel pro Die
on the wafer finally the most money. In order to continue to serve the entry-l
evel market segments, however, the older 22 nm production is still used – in
combination with an old architecture.

The gain in the performance range by new products is indeed large percentage,
but absolutely it plays only a minor role, so that even an older model can tak
e over this task. The six-year-old Pentium G3420 can ultimately compete with today's 14nm Celeron.
