I really like to know the spring rates for GT-R Premium, Track and Nismo... I tried to find the data for them but still no luck!!!

So, I would like to guess their ride frequencies here based on the data I gathered in the list...

GT-R have three different versions... Premium, Track and Nismo.

I guess...

Track version could be about as stiff as 2009 GT-R. (About as stiff as 981 GT4 and 991 S/GTS)
Premium version could be about 10% lower than Track version. (Slightly stiffer than stock GSF or M4 Competition)
Nismo version could be about 10% higher than Track version. (About as stiff as 991 GT3)

I also guess NSX could be a little softer than GT-R generally...

(Again... Higher ride frequency cars are NOT always better than lower ride frequency cars!!!)

PS: So, my current GSF could be a little stiffer than GT-R Nismo... Why suddenly I feel I'm a little DUMB on myself now??? (TOO STIFF???)

Golf Mk7

Base (Weight: 2961 lbs)
Front 2.28K : 2.28 / (2961 * 61%) * 1000 = 1.283
Rear 2.89K : 2.89 / (2961 * 39%) * 0.65 * 1000 = 1.586

GTI (Weight: 3128 lbs)
Front 3.06K : 3.06 / (3128 * 61%) * 1000 = 1.604
Rear 4.03K : 4.03 / (3128 * 39%) * 0.65 * 1000 = 2.147

R (Weight: 3269 lbs)
Front 3.41K : 3.41 / (3269 * 60%) * 1000 = 1.739
Rear 4.29K : 4.29 / (3069 * 40%) * 0.65 * 1000 = 2.272

Ohlins GTI (Weight: 3128 lbs)
Front 7K : 7 / (3128 * 61%) * 1000 = 3.669
Rear 5K : 5 / (3128 * 39%) * 0.65 * 1000 = 2.664

Ohlins R (Weight: 3269 lbs)
Front 7K : 7 / (3269 * 60%) * 1000 = 3.569
Rear 8K : 8 / (3069 * 40%) * 0.65 * 1000 = 4.236

Actually these Japanese luxury cars are quite stiff!!! (I'm very surprised, too!!!)

Of course, my daughter's M35X definitely is not as sporty as GR86 although both ride frequencies are similar because there are a lot of factors you also need to consider such as dampers, sway bars, etc.

I have test drove many different stock cars... I think the most stiff cars I have tested could be 2012 GT-R and 2016 86!!! I think their dampers are much more aggressive. So you could feel much more on the roads...

In addition, these Japanese luxury cars except some performance models are mainly for daily drive, not for race tracks. So, they are usually equipped with more comfortable, quiet, less grippy tires. Therefore, their sway bars don't need to as huge as those in GT-R or 911 as they are NOT designed to run that fast!!!

However, with higher ride frequency suspensions, those Japanese luxury will have more precise controls and good supports at corners in general... (That's why many car enthusiasts like to put stiffer springs on their cars!!!)

I also have to say those Japanese luxury cars are actually very good as even with those stiffer springs their rides are still very refined and comfortable!!! (Actually you don't feel those stiffer springs at all!!!)

PS: Of course, you still can put some stiffer sway bars, more sticky tires, etc on them... Then, they will also be good on race tracks!!!

Actually ISF is very stiff and even stiffer than stock GSF!!!

However, when I test drove ISF(many times), I totally didn't FEEL the stiffness and was still very comfortable!!! (2016 Toyota 86 I tested in 2016 had much firmer ride!!!)

Remember... Actually stiffer dampers, not stiffer springs will reduce ride comfort dramatically!!! (Of course, stiffer spring still need stiffer dampers to control the ride... That's why I really think those Japanese engineers really had done some amazing jobs!!!)

PS: Please be noted NF210 could be slightly stiffer or softer than OEM springs... Actually if you check the below sheet, they're usually lower than OEMs!!!

I also found GR Yaris was softer than GR86???

I think the reason could be GR Yaris is still a rally car, not a track car...

Of course, you still can put a very stiff suspension on GR Yaris. Then, it will be totally transformed from a rally car to a track car!!!

I found Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, Acura/Honda had very different design philosophies...

That's why when Nissan engineers built GT-R R35, they really took some time to think about whether the new GT-R should be under Nissan or Infiniti??? (If GT-R was under Infiniti, they had to keep the PREMIUM RIDE!!!)

Therefore, if we compare GT-R and NSX, that's NOT a good or apple to apple comparison as Acura is a luxury brand and NSX has to keep the premium ride.

Similarly, Civic Type R and RCF is not a good comparison. But, RCF and M4 is a very good comparison and both are direct competitors!!!

(I really like to try Porsche GT4 or GT3... Do they still ride as good as stock GSF??? I bet they do as Porsche is definitely a premium brand!!!)

I also found there was a sporter package for GT-R from Nismo in 2009...

The package was called Nismo SportClub package and also raised the ride frequency about 10%!!! i.e. 10% firmer (Please be noted 10% firmer in ride will need at least 20% stiffer in spring)

Stock 991 Carrera S should already be about 17% stiffer than stock GSF... (37% stiffer in springs!!!)

However, this guy installed a KW V3 on his 991 Carrera S and said his 911 became much better, after the new KW V3 was installed!!!

KW V3 usually is softer than Ohlins R&T. So, 991 Carrera S with KW V3 should be about as stiff as my current GSF which is only about 14% stiffer than his old stock 911... (I don't think 14% stiffer could make a lot of differences!!!)

Therefore I guess the KW dampers should be much more aggressive than OEM dampers!!! (The 911's OEM dampers should be much more comfortable because Porsche is still a premium brand!!!)

(Those crazy high spring rates of Ohlins suspensions are only one half of the story... The aggressive dampers from Ohlins suspensions also make a BIG difference!!!)

KW V3 on 991 Carrera S

So, I think I really don't need to try other cars... I think I may not be very happy even though my car is 911 GT3!!!

I also think that's why GT-R R35 was so successful as Nissan is not a premium brand... So, the engineers could do whatever they wanted even though the ride was already VERY STIFF!!!

I admit I underrated these Japanese luxury cars a bit in the past!!!

After I have done some researches on suspensions, I really think these Japanese luxury cars actually are very good!!!(NO SLOUCH at all!!!)

I think I got these Japanese luxury cars for myself a bit TOO EASILY in the past as I used to buy their used cars. (i.e. not very expensive even including my current GSF!!!)

Now, I finally understand why some people call IS, GS, Q50, G37, etc. sports sedans. They are really sports cars... They're also VERY COMFORTABLE sports sedans!!! (Their ride frequencies are actually quite high!!!)

Now, I suddenly realize why 2006 Cayman S that I tested in 2010 was SOFT... Actually it's NOT soft... It's just a VERY COMFORTABLE sports car!!! (Again, its ride frequency was actually quite high!!!)
