Chris Rock 這段笑話其實是在講述黑奴時期的不平等人權, 及當時黑人不被允許上學受教育的非人待遇....
當黑人駕著馬車來到十字路口, 他看到了 Stop sign, "Stop sign", 也就是"停車再開"的標示, 除了"八角形"及"紅底色"的外觀, 上面還寫著大大的 STOP 四個字母...
黑人心想, 我如果停下來, 就代表我認識那個單字"STOP", 白人一定會殺了我!! 可是, 如果不停呢? 一定會出車禍的... 最後, 心一橫就直接不停車過十字路口, 果然就出了車禍, 差點搞出人命來...
警察來到現場質問黑人: "黑鬼! 你沒看到 STOP 的標示嗎?"
可憐的黑人當然不敢回答他認得那個單字 STOP 啊! 於是裝傻說不知道什麼是 STOP sign...
警察接著說: "就是在那裡的那個牌子啊! 你沒看到嗎?"
黑人想繼續裝傻, 於是回答說: "喔! 你是指那個"八角形"(octagon)的東西嗎?"
這下子, 這個可憐的黑人聰明反被聰明誤, 竟然脫口而出 octagon 這個幾何數學的名詞! (真是死定了!!)
所以警察才會回問說: "Nigga, who taught you octagon?"

事前提要:
美國政府一開始會殺聰明識字的黑人，所以If you can read, you did.
所以聰明的黑人都要隱藏自己會識字以躲殺身之禍，而賣毒品的第一代黑人其實不賣藥－他們賣書。
在街頭看以看到以下場景
［Man, I got two pages. I got two pages, man. YO, man I got new words, man ....］
賣書搞得像犯罪一樣。
假想窮困的黑人奴隸他識字，但卻害怕教他的小孩認字以免害了他們的小孩。
在假想以下畫面:
一個窮困的黑人奴隸他必須拉著馬車到市區，騎著騎著但他識字，他騎著騎著經過交通繁忙的十字路口，並且他看到了一個STOP sign。此時他陷入了重要的抉擇。
"Oh Lord what is I gonna do? OH Lord what is I gonna do?
"如果我通過了這個路口，我可能會出車禍。如果我決定要停下來，那這個謊言(假裝是文盲)會殺了我"
牙一咬口喊" Fuck it" 他決定通過這個路口，果然出了車禍還差點害死人。
白人警察來了說:"你在搞什麼，死黑鬼，你他媽的哪根經不對勁?" "你沒看到那個Stop sign嗎?你差點害死人"
黑人回他:"喔!!長官，我不知道你在說什麼"(一定要裝一下)
白人警察說:"你沒看到那個Stop sign嗎?就在那邊"
黑人假鎮經的回:"你是說那個八角形的東西嗎?(指著後面的Stop sign)"
白人警察馬上驚訝的問:"誰教你八角形???"
註:一般人農家的用語只有近千字，不會念八角形的英文單字。在這邊又順便諷刺白人歧視黑人連八角形都不會看。

And he's riding the buggy, and in the last minute he says "f**k it", goes through the intersection, has a big ol' accident. Almost kills somebody. Then the police come: "Nigga, what is wrong with you? Nigga, what the f**k is wrong with you? You could have killed somebody, nigga. Didn't see that stop sign?" "Oh, I don't know what you talking about." "You didn't see that stop sign, that stop sign right there?" "Oh, you mean that octagon thing." "Nigga, who taught you octagon?"
