無法知道這句話的主題是什麼

could be satisfied: 滿意的, 條件符合的
how the other could be satisfied: 對方是如何滿意的.
Neither of them understood how the other could be satisfied: 兩人都不知對方當時是如何滿意的.
and yet, they both were...: 然而,他倆都...
