This video is a comparison of the electrical noise produced over the headphone jack during activity on both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6S.
It demonstrates that my iPhone 6S has significantly poorer isolation from processing noise than my previous iPhone. I have confirmed that this noise is present on other iPhone 6S / 6S Plus units and is not specific to my unit. I do not know if this is an issue related to a particular batch of iPhone 6S units.
Some other users have observed the noise and some have not. It may
depends on the sensitivity of your earphones at the particular frequencies of the noise. It can only be heard in a quiet room.
I have noticed the noise on the following earphones:
- Audio Technica ATH-IM02 (36 ohms, 113dB)
- Nuforce Primo 8 (38 ohms, 118dB)
- Sony MDR-7550 (16 ohms, 108dB)
- Sony XBA-C10 (24 ohms, 100dB)
- VSonic VSD3S (40 ohms, 108dB)
