My son also asked a local auto repair shop to change the brake fluid for his G35S last week... (The last time brake fluid change is 4 years ago. I usually do the job every 3 years but this time is a little delay...)

(Two weeks ago I also changed the brake fluid for my 2017 GSF but I don't want to do it for my son's car as his car is TOO OLD now!!! 笑到噴淚

)

Guess what... I also asked my son to check the color of both the new and the old brake fluids. He said both fluids looked the same!!! (So, I think the condition of my son's car is still good. However, his car is TOO OLD now. So, everything in his car still could be failing!!!

)

PS: Actually the brake fluid in my son's car still looks as clear as my 2017 GSF's. (But, I don't think its brake still works as perfectly as my GSF does!!!)

Today I worked on my son's car again... (but not for a problem, just for some routine maintenances!!! 笑到噴淚

)

I changed the engine oil and the differential oil for his car. When I checked the old engine oil before the oil change, believe it or not, I still barely saw that top mark on the oil stick!!! 嚇到吃手手

(not because the oil level got too low but the old oil looked still so transparent when the engine is very warm even after the old oil had been used for almost 8K kms!!!)

Of course, when the oil had been changed, I really have some hard time in finding the top oil mark!!! 笑到噴淚

(Just like my GSF!!!)

I think the condition of my son's car is still very good. (I think very few car can keep being maintained as good as my son's car except the appearance) However, since his car is so old, every plastic and rubber could become very hard and brittle!!!

I also found there was an oil leak in his car. But, I think it's still minor as the leaking oil never reaches the bottom of the chassis and the floor of the parking lot so far!!! (So, its chassis still looks completely dry!!!)

PS: You may wonder why the old oil still looked so clean, even though the old intake pipes were broken for some time!!! 笑到噴淚

I also checked its exhaust pipes... Guess what... They still looked very clean and cleaner than my current GSF!!!

I think if you have extra time and effort to replace those worn old parts, you still can keep these very reliable Japanese cars for another 10 years like 30 years totally...

However, I think many people will not do it as most of people are very busy every day... In addition, the labor costs in USA are extremely expensive and the parts of these Japanese luxury cars are not cheap!!! (Just like many other luxury cars)

PS: My son will also be a Stanford graduate student this fall. I don't think he will have time in repairing his current old car after he is graduated!!! 笑到噴淚

(So, we probably will sell it when it's about 20 year old)

Today I saw three V36 G35/G37 at the same time in a small parking lot nearby!!! 嚇到吃手手

(V36 are luxury cars. So they're definitely not as popular as Camry even in high income Silicon Valley!!! The youngest V36 should be at least 10 year old now...)

Interestingly, E90 3 Series which still had NA engines except 335 outsold V36 more than two times as many!!! However, I barely see any E90 still on the road now!!! (Of course, newer turboed 3 Series should be even worse!!!)

Another thing... 笑到噴淚

I also noticed some coolant smell near the engine bay in my son's car yesterday. I think there is definitely a coolant leak somewhere in his car but the leak should still be very minor, as so far the coolant level still never drops!!! (I also checked his car yesterday but couldn't find anything wrong)

In addition, I also found a big plastic bag under his car which was melt and completely attached to the middle section of the exhaust pipes in my son's car... 嚇到吃手手

(Yes. US highways around silicon valley are a bit dirty)

Then I asked my son "Didn't you smell something in your car???" He answered "NO!!!" orz

Believe it or not...

The spark plugs of both my son's G35S and my daughter's M35X have been used for about 110K kms now. Actually I already bought a set of new OEM spark plugs three years ago but I'm not sure if those plug are genuine as I bought them from eBay. So, I never did the replacement job yet... (God dxmn fake products from China!!!)

I think I will NOT change the spark plugs in my son's car for the rest of his ownership period. (Nissan claims those plug can be good for 160K kms!!!)

But, I think I will change the spark plugs in my daughter's car in the future. (Maybe I do the task or a local auto shop do it...

)

PS: The spark plugs of my daughter's M35X are still factory sparks from Nissan. I never change the plugs yet but I changed the spark plugs of my son's G35S once 10 years ago. Those spark plugs were also from ebay. Apparently, those spark plugs I bought from ebay 10 years ago should be genuine... 笑到噴淚

This is one of the spark plugs I bought 3 years ago.

Be honest... After I have spent quite some time in verifying those plugs, I'm pretty sure they should be genuine. However, I still don't want to be risky on those cheap ebay parts as they may destroy the engine completely!!!

VQ25DE TEANA @ 14000 KM

DENSO FXE20HR11 ( Nissan use Denso Iridium these years for VQ ). I think long life spark plug will endure 100000~120000 KM only )

So far, both my son and daughters' cars still run in excellent conditions...

Two years ago, I also tested 0-96 km/h in my daughter's car. The result was 5.83. 8 years ago, the result was 5.82...

PS: Interestingly, Toyota suggests to change the spark plugs for GSF at 96K kms. I think that's because the newer emission regulation. I think I would not change the spark plugs for my GSF until at least 125K kms!!! 笑到噴淚

(Another thing I concern is... Then, I have to change EIGHT spark plugs instead of six!!! orz
