Hi all,

I am planning to buy a MBP 15". However, I wonder I should go with the graphic card 1G or 256MB?

I plan to use MBP for

1) develop Mac OS / iOS apps
2) iMovie (edit videos)
3) Parallels Desktop to run Windows 7 64bit (I have to run some apps which they work in Windows and it is very difficult to get them working on the OSX).

By the way, I plan to upgrade the LCD to high-def, and upgrade 4G ram to 8G ram. The only difference is the video card.

Thanks for your feedback in advance.

According to the Notebookcheck.net, there are no big difference between ATI 6490m and Intel HD 3000.

To develop Mac OS / iOS apps and use PD to run win7 are not related to the graphic card if you don't write things to run in 3D.

It seems that using iMovie is the main factor to consider which computer you need. Of course how much money you have is another important issue. XD

If you use the mbp for work, I think I will recommend the high end model.

Sorry for my poor English.

Since you are not running any 3D system, I think 256MB graphic card good enough for you.

But I recommend upgrade to the high end version for your MBP 15”, if you are getting enough budgets.

I just got my MBP 13” early 2011, I choice the lowest level, because I got i7 laptop already,

It’s all depends on you; we don’t know your situations.
thanks for both of your replies.

I don't plan to run any 3D programs on MBP. At least, I am not a gamer thou.

re: budget to upgrade to 15" high-end version.
budget is tight and I rather upgrade to 8M RAM and the high-def LCD too.

I will google more info re: video card 1G vs 256M.

By the way, if I want to use an external monitor with my MBP, does it still make sense to upgrade to a high-def LCD?

thanks again.
