不是法律系的 但還真的上過法院幾次(在美國)!
剛去美國的時候 很容易就超速 (特別是在社區巷內與小學學校的附近, 警察都躲在暗處
)。超速交通罰單都是100美元起跳 (大補丸)。
交通罰單背後有打勾處
1. guilty (我認罪): 把支票和罰單寄回去 就case closed.
2. plead not guilty (不認罪): 這裡打勾後寄回去，就會安排你去交通法庭的日期。
有些特別嚴重的違規, 警方也會住註記要你到交通法庭報到。
我 打勾"plead not guilty (不認罪)" 只是想知道到底交通法庭是如何進行的。
到庭的當日,交通法庭擠滿一堆交通違規的人，有酒駕 有車禍等等，也有人是不服警方的處置，當庭就會安排當日的警察出庭對質。我的case 當日警察也要出庭。
按Case 編號 法官一一處理。看每一位交通違規的人與警察對質，也真的有些人被處以較便宜的罰金喔。
輪到我，我就只好說"I plead gulity"(違規是事實 我只是想知道實際法庭的情形)。
然後到旁邊有金髮小(蜜)書 繳支票就case closed.
還有一次是我的好友酒駕在高速公路發生車禍(自撞護欄)。
他被關到紐約市警局某分局的拘留所 一晚
第二天我和他大姊去保釋他，之後他還要出席交通法庭。
單純酒駕自撞 保釋金bail bonds不高 (但車險會漲很高，要是有人受傷或死亡 保釋金就有可能高達10萬美金以上。當然也有人一時拿不出高額bail bonds，就會去 Bail Bond Company 求協助(詳細如下)。
我也收過通知要我去當(陪審團員jury)，這是依據社會安全號碼抽籤的樣子 (不得拒絕 除非你是警察 消防等) 但我當時還在讀書，也非公民就可以免除了。
TV Court (電視法庭)是我在美讀書時就有的節目(各電視網各有自己的TV Court, 名稱或有不同，現在CBS 電視網還有這節目)，
每一次都認真看，多學習一些法庭的專業知識與禮儀，深怕哪一天要上法庭，連法官說的聽不懂就GG了。

What Does a Bail Bond Company Do?

The bail bond company sells the accused a surety bond, which acts as insurance that the accused will show up in court when ordered to do so. Individuals who own a bail bond company are sometimes known as bail bondsmen.
The cost of the jail bond is typically a percentage of the bail. This amount may be limited by state laws, but is often around 10 percent of the total bail. In addition, the bail bond company may require the accused to secure the bond with collateral, such as the deed to a house, or a car, jewelry or other valuables. A friend or family member of the accused may agree to put up collateral to secure the bond. From there, the bail bond company sends a representative to the court to pay a portion of the bail and guarantee payment of the rest should the accused not appear when required to do so.
