When my friend was formatting his laptop computer, the power supply was cut off. So, his harddrive is messed up. He tried to format it again , but it does not work. How can he fix it, or he has to buy another harddrive? Thank you!!

what is RUN Fdisk? What should i do to (deleat), do u mean to detect, or delete, all partition to make a new partition and reformat it again.

我覺得用磁碟管理員對你來說可能比較簡單啦，因為你連FDISK要做啥都不清楚
不然你用SPFDISK (need DOS/FreeDOS to boot)
去清掉Master Boot Record(MBR)，再去做你原來要做的動作(安裝XP ??)
我只能給你一個大方向，在這邊step by step不僅太耗費時間，同時這些訊息
google或書上都能找到。
還真是送佛送上天...又在01磨了一晚上...
對了，樓上是指刪除(delete/erase)啦

Use another computer and build a bootable CDROM (NERO can do this, but put FDISK.exe, FORMAT.exe into the compilation before you burn the disc)
Then boot from the CDROM (Assuming the POST and BIOS detected the hard drive), run FDISK, then select "delete all partitions" (something like this. i can't run fdisk right now to verify - i don't want to format my hard drive... yet), follow on-screen instructions.
Reboot, then proceed to format the hard drive again. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AC POWER PLUGGED IN AND A FULL BATTERY!

WHAT? Why didn't you tell us you had this in the first place? If you simply want to restore the system back to original state, just BOOT from the recovery CD!
On the other hand, if you want to USE the WINDOWS XP installation from the CD that's another adventure.
