石油危機造成的油價上漲,使日本車在美國大賣,然後才開始有前輪驅動車型出現!當時的車界衛道人士還對這種驅動方式嗤之以鼻,認為終非正道。等石油危機過了好一陣子後,才又開始有Audi的四輪驅動開始冒出頭來,但後驅車充斥街頭的景象已經一去不返了。
要汽車業再回到後輪驅動,恐怕不像女裝裙子長度從短變長再變短那麼容易。畢竟大家都已嚐盡前驅車的省油、車室大的甜頭。除了特殊設計的品味車,應該沒有人想再回去開或坐車廂中間凸起一條「田埂」的後驅車了吧。再以目前油價走勢來看,也沒有後驅車再冒出頭的機會了。

for V6 engine, 60 degree is the best angle. It will balance itself both horizontally and vertically which will result in a very smooth running engine. (for example, Toyota's V6 are 60 degree)
90 degree V6 can't balance itself. usually, car manufacture will add a balancing shelf to balance it out. The engine will be still smooth running with the help of the balancing shelf. (for example, the new generation of V6 on Mercedes Benz)
ps. of course, there are other angle of V6, for example, 15 degree on VW, 72 degree on Audi. They all have different purposes.
Usually a V8 engine is 90 degree. It is the only angle that the engine will balance itself. To make V6 the same angle as V8, the car menufacture can save lots of money on developing and parts cost. basically the V6 is the same as V8 minus 2 cylinders at the end. In addition, both engine can share many parts together. Finally, both engine can be assemble on the same production line, which save time and money.
For Mercedes Benz, they might sell as many V8 cars as V6 cars. as a result, it will save them money by changing V6 to 90 degree and share parts and production line with V8.
For Toyota, they might sell far more V6 cars than V8, as a result, Toyota won't see big advantages by sharing parts with V8. It doesn't surprising me that Toyota continue using 60 degree V6, which is the perfect angle for V6 engine.
Actually, i tend to believe that AWD is the perfect solution. When engine become more and more powerful, the 2 extra wheels will be helpful. U can check the 0-60 time on the RWD and AWD BMW. The 535xd is actually faster than 535d. ;)

另一方面來說
R8既然採中置引擎設計
那就絕對可以做成後驅怪物
但是AUDI的堅持之下...仍是用AWD
