We hear a lot from our users and their message is clear — computers need to get better. They want their data to be accessible to them wherever they are and not have to worry about losing their computer or forgetting to back up files. Even more importantly, they don't want to spend hours configuring their computers to work with every new piece of hardware, or have to worry about constant software updates.

我解釋一下為什麼 Google Chrome OS 屬於新世代的作業系統
現行的作業系統在原始設計時並沒有考慮到雲端運算的環境
也就是運算以及儲存的工作被預期在本機端完成
因此作業系統必須能有效處理這些工作
這造成作業系統的發展越來越複雜龐大
但對多數使用者而言
隨著網路的發展
當日常生活的諸事都可以在雲端上完成時
現有的作業系統就顯得太笨重
也相當難以維護
而新世代的作業系統原生就針對雲端運算的環境
由於我們將會把運算以及儲存的工作由使用者端移往雲端(網路)
因此使用者端的作業系統將可以大幅精簡只負責使用者介面與連結雲端的環節
其餘應用, 儲存, 更新, 維護, 保全的工作都將在雲端上由服務提供者完成
使用者不需再費神這些繁瑣的工作
而只需要負責一件事
那就是好好使用 :)
而在這個概念下誕生的
就是 Google Chrome OS
傳統的作業系統及桌面端軟體會走向特定的高階應用
一般使用者將轉而使用網路服務及精簡的新世代作業系統
網路(Web)成為平台
桌面端的作業系統不再重要
而新世代的作業系統扮演的是讓我們連結網路平台的窗口
這也代表
使用者在 Chrome OS 上所使用的服務 (例: Google Apps)
也同時可以在其他的作業系統上透過標準的瀏覽器存取
