I am with you about this hilariously unhealthy perception (that some English words cutting in the whole sentence in Chinese make him or her look better or professional)
However, I think it's very prevalent among Taiwanese firms for employees to have English names for the convenience. I can tell you that my English name is even printed in the column of "as known as" in my passport. It's reallyeasier for those non mandarin speaking counterparts.
