I agree with your point of view. In my opinion, I feel those Japanese manufacturers like Lexus, Infiniti, and in particular, Acura, lack some sense of building a premium level of performance compared with their competition although having made some progress in this field recently. I don't think they lack the state-of-the-art technologies as you take a look on such high-tech equipment like Acura's latest Super Handling-All Wheel Drive system with electric motors mounted on wheels and transmission. My thought is actually the same as yours. They overly rely on the U.S. market which still prefers monster engines and relatively comfortable suspension setting nowadays, and this makes the Japanese manufacturers a tougher situation to beat those European rivals especially the Germans in the markets outside the states. They do know how to build phenomenal sporty cars; indeed, they know how to build such breath-taking machines on tracks, as they have showed us many examples. However, as to daily driving, specifically for luxury sedans, they haven't got the sense of making balance between stunning performance and comfort while the European or especially, the German rivals, have shown the ability in this particular filed. Personally I still prefer Japanese cars since they are normally reliable and reasonably priced, but apparently they still have a way to go in building luxury cars. At least they are still progressing. As their advent woke those traditional luxury-car makers up in the late 1980s, I believe they will keep pace with their competitors soon.
