This is the latest TLX Type S dyno...

It's quite interesting... Before 3500rpm this Honda is more like RS400 but after 3500rpm it's more like 300GT...(TLX Type S is still slightly better like 300lb-ft vs 290lb-ft on wheel)

So, I guess this Honda should be about as good as 300GT on the highways because that big Honda is heavier...

Just did some research on that Honda...

Guess what... That Honda has much lower redline than 300GT!!! (6200rpm vs 6800rpm) (Q50 3.7 nonhybrid's redline is even higher which is 7500rpm and about the same as my GSF's)

So, for similar speed range 4th gear in 300GT is about equivalent to 6th gear in TLX Type S... But, 6th gear in TLX is higher than 4th gear in 300GT (3400rpm vs 3800rpm)

As a result, 6th gear in TLX is slower than 4th gear in 300GT and about as fast as 4th gear in Q50(3.7 non-hybrid)

Of course, you can change to 5th gear in that Honda... But, the rpm will increase to 4400rpm and its redline is only 6200rpm. So, you're almost in the RACE mode and use its maximum power if you use the 5th gear!!! (I will definitely not use that gear as I just do some spirited driving, not race on the highways)

These make this very new Honda look very bad... But, I guess that less powerful Honda could last longer...

If your AT doesn't have aggressive lockups at lower gears... That's still fine... You just lose about 3-8% of the power... (MTs or lockups will get 100% of the power, no loss)

With that additional loss(5% in average) I think in the 4th gear in 300GT is still faster than the 6th gear in my GSF(SPORT+ Mode)...

Now I think these Nissans are really underrated...

Be honest... I'm very surprised that the redline of this big Honda (TLX Type S ) is only 6200rpm as Hondas used to be VTEC screamers!!!

Some of my information is based on the below website... (The data may not be all correct... )

I checked some Honda's engines in the past...

Yes. Honda produce some engines with 8000-9000rpm redline such as Integra GS-R, S2000. But, those are 4 cylinder smaller NA engines.

For the most recent Honda V6 NA engines the redlines are about 6800rpm which are still lower than the redlines in Q50 3.7 and GSF.

I also checked the redline for 340i... It's 7000rpm!!! So, what do you think???

In my opinion, of course, car makers could set higher redlines for their cars... I just wonder how long those engine can last especially for turbo engines???

In reality 335d F30 usually changes gears at around 4500rpm which is lower than redline 5000rpm due to weak torque near the redline.... (Not good for 100-200 test)

I think it's correct that the redline in TLX Type S is 6300rpm...

Today I looked into the SPORT+ mode in my GSF in more depth...

The default gear is still the 6th gear as usual... But, if I'm a bit more aggressive on the throttle, the 8AT in my GSF could change to the 5th gear or even the 4th gear...

Actually, the SPORT+ mode in my GSF works just like G35S's 5AT... (Be honest... I'm a little surprised!!!) The only differences are...

1. During spirited drive on the highway, GSF has the 4th, 5th and 6th gears and G35S has only two gears which are the 4th and 5th gears.
2. GSF has two additional higher gears the 7th and the 8th gears available at normal mode for fuel economy but G35S has no those additional higher gears. (So, G35S is always on sport+ mode on highway!!!)
3. Of course, GSF's V8 is a bit more power... So, SPORT+ mode in GSF is much more fun...

I'm not sure if Q50/Q60's 7AT have any mode like SPORT+ mode in my GSF...

If Nissan's 7AT does, then the default gear should be the 5th gear... If I'm a bit aggressive, the 7AT should be changed to 4th gear... (Yes, just like G35S's 5AT... However, during spirited driving on the highway there are only two gears available in 7AT... Still one gear less than my GSF's 8AT...)

In addition, if it's RS400, the 5th gear(the default gear in sport+ mode) is as good as my GSF's 6th gear (the default gear in sport+ mode)...

However, if it's 300GT, the 5th gear is a bit too tame... Only 4th gear is good enough but I don't think Nissan will use the 4th gear as the default as the rpm will jump to around 3800rpm constantly which could be too high!!!
